I’m Sumanta Chakraborty – Ex-Head Credit Risk at Bandhan Bank and Vice President – Corporate Credit at SBI – now working as a Banking trainer in India, Banking mentor, and Corporate banking trainer for students, professionals, and institutions who want more than textbook knowledge.
For 18 years, my world revolved around decisions that could change businesses, families, and sometimes entire industries. Credit wasn’t just a calculation – it was a responsibility. Risk wasn’t just a department – it was the quiet voice that kept you honest. I’ve sat in rooms where a ₹300 crore decision depended on one line in a CMA. I’ve rejected proposals from confident promoters whose balance sheets told a different story. And I’ve approved deals that looked risky on paper but made perfect sense once you understood the logic behind the business.

Along the way, I also stepped into one of the most urgent conversations of our time — Climate Risk. I earned the GARP-SCR, a globally prestigious certification in Climate Risk, and today it shapes how I teach credit, risk and banking. Because climate finance is not “the future of banking.” It is the present — and those who ignore it will be unprepared for the next decade.
I’ve mentored officers who walked in terrified of credit appraisal and walked out leading teams across India. Somewhere between the approvals, the rejections, the climate-risk debates, and the 11:45 PM “please check this again” moments, I realised something simple but important:
- India doesn’t need more finance graduates. India needs thinkers who can take banking decisions without fear.
