Visiting Faculty
Bringing Real Banking into the Classroom
My 18+ years of senior banking experience spans over corporate credit, retail lending, credit risk, governance, microfinance, and sustainable finance. As a Visiting Faculty and Domain Expert, I use this practitioner perspective to make complex banking concepts easier to understand, discuss, and apply.
My sessions connect academic knowledge with the way banks actually recruit, evaluate, and develop young professionals. They also prepare students for the BFSI workplace.
I have conducted academic sessions at institutions including IIFT, XIMB, Praxis Business School, and ICFAI Business School, covering subjects from Climate Risk and Sustainable Finance to Microfinance, Commercial Credit, Corporate Lending, Credit Risk Management, and Governance.
What I Teach
The curriculum can be adapted to the programme, student level and academic objectives of the institution.
Banking Foundations
Credit governance, regulatory frameworks and the fundamentals of how banking institutions make lending and risk decisions.
Credit Appraisal & Analysis
Credit appraisal through the 5Cs framework, MPBF, DSCR, financial statement analysis and the credit lifecycle.
Credit Risk Management
Basel standards, PD and LGD concepts, stress testing, portfolio risk and NPA management.
Banking Governance
Board dynamics, risk appetite, governance frameworks and regulatory compliance, informed by experience at senior institutional and board-level forums.
Sustainable Finance & Climate Risk
TCFD, ESG integration, green bonds and climate stress testing, bringing current sustainability considerations into the banking context.
Management Through a Banking Lens
Understanding management, decision-making and organisational behaviour through the practical framework of banking and credit.
These subjects are specifically identified in the academic profile as areas Sumanta brings into the MBA and Banking & Financial Services classroom.
